The RACI model is a widely used tool in project management and organizational planning. It helps clarify and define roles and responsibilities within a team or organization. RACI stands for Responsible, Accountable, Consulted, and Informed, which are the four key roles in the model.

A breakdown of each role:

A (Accountable): Position with yes/no authority; “The buck stops here.”

The individual who is ultimately responsible. Includes yes or no authority and veto power. Only one “A” can be assigned to a function.

R(Responsible): Position working on the activity; “The doer.”

The individual(s) who actually completes the task, the doer(s). This person is responsible for action/implementation. Responsibility can be shared. The degree of responsibility is determined by the individual with the “A.”

C(Consult): Position involved prior to decision or action; “In the loop.”

The individual(s) to be consulted prior to a final decision or action. This incorporates two-way communication.
