How a God Succeeded in Publishing His Debut Book
Mark, a god, roamed on Earth, looking for fun. He happened to read a number of novels and fell in love with reading and writing. He fancied that he could write and publish a book of his own. Surely it must be as easy as a walk in the park for him — What couldn’t a god do?
Mark spent two days writing a fiction about a young man from a magical land descending down to Earth seeking love. He was rather pleased with the story and confident that it could be accepted by a publisher upon submission and become a bestseller in no time. He was a god after all, and his book was a real masterpiece. He knew that because — well, he’d cheated a little — he’d used his magical power granting himself the storytelling talent that no human being could match.
However, when he looked for publishing houses and literary agencies online, he found they all had absurdly hard-to-meet requirements. For one, they wanted the authors to have a very visible online presence.
Mark sighed, then started to register himself on various online social platforms — Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube, Reddit, etc. — and build up his network. It was more difficult to do than writing the book itself; it took him 5 days to build up a small network of around 20 followers in each of those platforms, by posting some odd videos he didn’t…
