3D Agile Leader Model — Servant Leader with Self-Managed Teams

Based on 3D Agile Leader Model, the three dimensions required of a “solid” agile leader — Servant Leader, Value Creator, and Intrapreneur — are the three critical roles a manager must assume in order to become an agile leader. Each dimension comprises three themes. The first dimension is Servant Leader, and the third also the last theme of this dimension centers on developing self-managed teams.

A traditional manager may think developing teams simply involves sending individual members to trainings so that each of them could better carry out his responsibilities in his team within his job description. But a servant leader thinks differently, because his entire leadership philosophy is built upon the best leadership principles advocated by the Chinese ancient philosopher and founder of Taoism — Lao Tzu, whose work has been embraced by various anti-authoritarian movements.

In Tao Te Ching, Lao Tzu famously wrote, “When the Master governs, the people are hardly aware that he exists. Next best is a leader who is loved. Next, one who is feared. The worst is one who is despised.” It means that the best leader is a selfless and invisible leader whose…
